Lift off! The i360 is up, up, up and running
When you visit Brighton one of the first things you notice – from almost anywhere – is a mysterious tall, thin pole on the seafront. This impressive construction is the British Airways i360, a ‘vertical pier’ that will take you a full 450 feet up into the air to have a good nose around. It’s the tallest moving observation tower in the world. By night it resembles a shimmering space ship rising above a neon multicoloured tube, with its incredible metallic mirror finish visible from the underside of the pod. This spectacle can't fail to impress even if you are a tad skeptical about this contemporary addition to Brighton's Regency seafront sited opposite the iconic crumbling West Pier.
If travelling 450 feet upwards in a giant, glass doughnut is your thing, then the i360 is definitely for you. If, however, you can’t even look at a ladder without feeling a touch queasy, then perhaps you should keep your feet on the ground.
From the top of the i360 you can see a full 26 miles, over the sea, across Brighton and the surrounding countryside, making it a totally unique experience. The entire ride lasts around 20 minutes, just enough time to enjoy a glass of bubbly from the on board bar.
So far, the i360 has had rave reviews. The pod, which can hold up to 200 people, feels sturdy and the ride is smooth, which is good news for those of us with vertigo. Brighton’s latest attraction has not disappointed and with tickets at only £15 per person, we highly recommend a visit while you are here.
My i360 Pad
Many height lovers and engineering enthusiasts are coming to Brighton just to go on the i360. If you are one of these, then you will want to stay close by. Luckily, we have a self-catering townhouse, just moments away from the i360 and the seafront.
The My i360 Pad sleeps up to 16 and is perfect for large groups, families, stag and hen parties. It comes with all the luxury that you would expect from a Crown Gardens property, including complimentary bubbly and toiletries.
This holiday rental is close to many other attractions in Brighton, so if any of your group don’t want to be suspended mid air in a glass doughnut, they won’t get bored. It is close to the city centre shops, bars and clubs, as well as the seafront and pier. You will be right at the centre of the action, while you enjoy the chic, luxurious surroundings.
